BASEPROD: The Bardenas Semi-Desert Planetary Rover Dataset
Nature's Scientific Data, 2024 · Open access
A multi-modal planetary robotics dataset collected in Mars-analog terrain.
It features RGB, depth, and thermal vision, IMU and force-torque
telemetry, alongside laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy
(LIBS), local weather data, and high-resolution aerial mapping.
You can find a short behind-the-scenes story of the field campaign in the
Springer
Nature Community.
Wheel-mounted force-torque sensors outperform the chassis IMU for terrain classification on
a Mars-analog rover (about 90% vs. 82% test accuracy with SVMs and neural networks), using
the open BASEPROD dataset. Also covers signal reliability and practical pitfalls of these
sensors.
Efficient Autonomous Navigation for Planetary Rovers with Limited Resources
Journal of Field Robotics, 2020
Hazard detection and avoidance built on top of the ExoMars path-following approach, using
only the Localization Cameras stereo bench.
